Graduated from the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology, Dr. Gunther Hauser received his M.A. in Political Science/International Law (University of Innsbruck) and his Ph.D. in Political Science/Austrian Politics (University of Salzburg). Since 1994, he has been serving in several scientific, political and military institutions. In 1997, he became research assistant at the Committee of Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Common Security and Defence Policy and at the Committee of Transport and Tourism of the European Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg. From 1998 to 2000, he worked as senior researcher and general manager at the Austrian Institute for European Security Policy (AIES) in Vienna and Maria Enzersdorf-Südstadt. During this period, Dr. Hauser was also member of the 1998 NATO Workshop staff coordinating the programme at the Vienna Hofburg. Since 2000, he is senior researcher and lecturer for European security policy and international law at the Institute for Strategy and Security Policy/Austrian Defence Academy, Vienna. Since 2010 he has been heading the Section of International Security at the Austrian Defence Academy. Since 2006, Dr. Hauser has been lecturing at the Center for European Integration, Danube University Krems.

He has been publishing 27 books and more than 250 articles in 13 European nations, in the U.S. and in Mongolia about European security architecture, transatlantic relations, security policy and international law, neutrality, Chinese foreign and security policy, and Austrian parliamentary system.

Since 2002, he has been writing articles as permanent journalist for Austrian military newspapers (Oesterreichische Militaerische ZeitschriftTruppendienst, Der Soldat). Dr. Hauser is member of ECSA Austria (European Community Studies Association) in Vienna and of the Presseclub Concordia (Austrian Press Club) in Vienna; from 2004 to 2009, he had been Director for International Relations at the Duesseldorf Institute for Foreign and Security Policy. In 2006, Dr. Hauser was appointed Vice President of the Scientific Forum on International Security at the German Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Hamburg. Since 2014 as a honorary professor Dr. Hauser is member of the scientific board of the Department for Business Law and European Integration at the Danube University Krems.
